Winning Equipment Seller Business Over Large Captives and Vendor Finance Firms

In this article, we’re highlighting three commercial finance brokers who successfully won deals against large captive lenders and bigger vendor finance firms. By offering more personalized service, flexibility, and faster turnaround times, these brokers secured equipment seller business that would typically go to larger competitors. Here’s how they outmaneuvered the bigger players, along with feedback from the equipment sellers.

Deal #1: Construction Equipment Dealer Finds Flexibility and Speed

A regional construction equipment dealer was frustrated with the rigid financing terms for younger companies from their captive lender, which often delayed sales and left customers with limited options. A commercial finance broker stepped in, offering flexible payment structures and faster approval processes for the dealer’s customers.

“Our captive lender was slow and inflexible when it came to startups,” the dealer’s sales manager shared. “The broker came in with customized terms and rapid approvals that allowed us to close deals faster and offer more appealing financing to our clients. It gave us the edge we needed in a competitive market.”

Deal #2: Medical Device Distributor Chooses Custom Solutions Over One-Size-Fits-All

A medical device distributor was locked into a standard financing program from a large vendor finance firm, but it wasn’t meeting the needs of their mid-sized clients. The broker worked with the distributor to create tailored financing packages that addressed specific client needs, including leasing options and flexible terms that the larger vendor couldn’t provide.

“We felt boxed in by our previous finance partner,” the distributor’s VP of sales explained. “The broker’s ability to customize solutions for each client was a breath of fresh air. It gave us the flexibility to serve a wider range of customers and close more deals.”

Deal #3: Manufacturing Equipment Dealer Closes More Deals with Competitive Rates

A manufacturing equipment dealer was competing in a high-stakes market where the larger vendor finance firms often dominated. However, the broker won the business by offering competitive structures with a personal touch that made the dealer’s customers feel valued.

“The larger firms just couldn’t move as quickly and they had a take-it-or-leave-it approach,” said the dealer’s owner. “Our broker partner came in with competitive rates and a real solution focus to each customer. They took the time to understand our customers’ needs. We’ve closed more deals with them than we ever could with the big finance companies.”

These brokers demonstrated how personalized service, flexibility, and faster approvals can win over equipment sellers who are dissatisfied with the rigid and slower processes of larger captive and vendor finance firms. By focusing on the specific needs of both the seller and the end customer, these brokers secured more deals and became go-to finance partners for their clients.
